What is UX Design? Differences Between UX and UI Design?
UI and UX are both important aspects of the design world. What are the differences between UI and UX? UI is the User Interface. UI Design takes what the users might need to do and ensures that the interface has the elements they need in an easy-to-understand manner. UI uses concepts from interaction design, visual design, and information architecture. UX design or User experience design is the process design teams use to create a good and user-friendly experience for the user. UX design involves the design of the processes of acquiring and integrating the product, including aspects of branding, design, usability, and function. Both UI and UX go hand and hand.
A UX designer works with content strategy. Content can include text, images, and other media elements on the product or application. When looking into content strategy, they try to get customer analysis from testing and prototyping. They can also have a role in content mapping and competitor analysis designers can prototype the flow of the design by having different wireframes of the design. Having different wireframes allows for the testing of different button placements. UX designers also need to research their users. This could be done through surveys. UX designers also keep track of metrics and goals the company would like to reach.
While the UX designer is doing their job, the UI designer is working on Visual Design while keeping the brand style consistent. This might involve making mood boards, gathering typefaces and color palettes, and gathering other elements that might be needed for the design.
These are UX design statistics according to uxcam.com
Every $1 invested in UX results in a return of $100 (ROI = 9,900%).
39% will stop engaging with content when loading time takes too long.
85% think that a company's mobile site should be as good or better than a desktop site.
88% of users are less likely to return after a bad user experience.
Mobile users are 5 times more likely to abandon a task if a site isn’t mobile optimized.
Can you think of a time when you have trouble navigating an application due to the design being outdated? There is an app called Hello Talk that has some beautiful design elements however the UI can seem cluttered at times. Hello, talk is a language exchange app where you can speak or text with the natives of any language you are trying to acquire. The Information architecture of the application needs work. There are multiple places in the app where the same things are shown. If you want to do lessons on the app, they are not organized more intuitively. This has caused me, a former active user of the app, to drift away from it. I only revisited the app to redesign it. We mustn't forget about UX when designing a product.
Hey! Im DJ Francis
l always strive to create work that not only represents me as a designer but also me as a person. My goal is to solve problems in the real world through design and to make things more intuitive and easy to use through clean minimal design. This is just the beginning of my graphic design journey and I am excited to leave lasting impressions on the world!
